Smallies in Lake Delavan WI
As I fish lake Delavan for the past 3 years I catch a lot of Northern , Catfish , and a good number of Largemouth. As I watch the boats come in I notice all the Smallmouth being caught,so I started doing research and I nailed down a sure fire way to fill the boat with smallies. First you have to locate the drop offs and ledges ( this is nothing new for smallies)what I didn't know was how to catch the buggers. I would track them by the hundreds on my finder and it took a lot of trial and error before I came up with this full prof way to catch them.Throw your line with a fat juicy night crawler out about 20 yards or so onto the drop off leave the bail open as the crawler hits the bottom just let it sit there. Soon you see your line start going out ( now here is the tricky part ) let it out about 25 to 30 yards before setting the hook. I kept ending up with half a worm cause the Bass would pick up the Crawler in his mouth and start sucking it in if you set the hook to soon and end up with half a worm you didn't let him take the crawler all the way in his mouth. If you give him that 25 to 30 yards your chances increase dramatically. I got it down to a science and so will you with practice. So get out there and give it a try. I will be back with more Lake Delavan tips it is a fantastic lake.
